Edinburgh Fringe Chats (#71): Gravity and Other Myths, TEN THOUSAND HOURS
As anticipation builds for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2025, we’re catching up with a range of exciting creatives preparing to bring their work to the world’s largest arts festival this August. In this series, we delve into the stories behind the shows, the inspiration driving the artists, and what audiences can expect. Today, we’re joined by Gravity and Other Myths to chat more about their show, Ten Thousand Hours.
Can you begin by telling us about your show and what inspired it?
Ten Thousand Hours is all about the time it takes to master new skills. Inspired by the quote from Malcolm Gladweel that states that it takes ten thousand hours of dedicated practice to master any given skill. We dive deeper than just the time it takes and have a look at everything that goes into pursuing our passions and learning new things, specifically through the lens of spectacular group acrobatics, which of course, Gravity & other Myths are known for. The show is also a celebration of the things that keep us coming back, like play, joy and the thrill of spectacular new tricks.
What made you want to bring this work to the Fringe this year?
After a fantastic season last year we knew we had to follow it up with a return season, were in the same venue, but at a GREAT time slot for all sorts of new audiences to experience the show. Plus we love the Fringe atmosphere and are finding ourselves back here more and more.
How would you describe your show in three words?
Spectacular, awe-inspiring, funny
What do you hope audiences take away from watching your performance?
We hope people are inspired to go and pick up that old hobby or passion that they have let slip away. Or just enjoy the memories of learning new things.
What’s your top tip for surviving the Fringe?
It's not often that you have this much art at your fingertips. Go see lots of shows and have fun but make sure you eat well, drink lots of water and sneak in a bit of sleep if you can.
Where and when can people see your show?
18:00 at Assembly Hall: Main Hall
