The award-winning, adults-only cabaret WET has arrived in Edinburgh and it’s packed with a colossal bashing of empowerment! The production invites its audiences to explore womanhood and feminity with all of the heart, humour and sass you could probably expect.
WET uses spoken word, dance, sketch humour and live music to shine a spotlight on society’s physical, cultural, emotional and historical gaze on “women”. They do take the shame and guilt that we’ve all felt as women and throw it to the kerb. It is extremely powerful stuff to witness!
It’s a brilliantly hand-crafted piece that will have you laughing out loud but also delivers some reflective material - particularly as there’s a part when a letter about mothers is read out loud. This letter is read to a mother sitting in the audience and the impact that it has on everyone in the room is almost immediate. It works so well on this platform and each of the women provides their own stories, giving it a sense of how this performance impacts the women who are performing in it. This was such a beautiful touch on the conclusion of the piece.
