The 10 Best Places for a UK Staycation

UK staycations are my favourite thing and I've explored some great places in the last few years through my blog. We're all probably unaware of the British beauty spots on our doorsteps and now is the perfect time to go out there and seize them for ourselves, instead of admiring them through a scroll on the internet.

It's hard to know where to start when it comes to planning a staycation because there's too many options out there and the difficulty to figure out what place most suits your needs. I've complied a list of the 10 best places for a UK staycation using my own experiences. All of these places I have visited for myself (with the exception of one!) and can highly recommend to others too.

So grab yourself a cuppa and a pen and paper, you may want to write some of these recommendations down.

1. Rigsby Wold Holiday Cottages, Lincolnshire

This was my last trip before lockdown and I am rearing to go back to this place because it's really beautiful. Rigsby Wold Holiday Cottages are a collection of three self-catering accommodations set within the beautiful Lincolnshire countryside. If you are looking to gather your close family together for a long awaited reunion after lockdown, then this is the place for you. The cottages sleep between 4-6 individuals, two of their cottages are dog-friendly places with secure gardens available adjacent to the properties.

The cottages are situated 2 miles away from a small town renowned for its arts and crafts and the striking five-sailed windmill, Alford. There are multiple walking and cycling routes around the cottage to really enjoy that Lincolnshire countryside too. The Rigsby Wold Holiday Cottages are so well presented and looked after by the owners, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The cottage gave us a real home from home feel which I think is what most people want from a holiday right now.

2. Brackenborough Hall Coach House, Lincolnshire

Another spot in Lincolnshire which is fantastic for a UK staycation, the Brackenborough Hall Coach House. I visited here last autumn and it was an unforgettable trip for both me and my boyfriend. There are three different apartments to choose from here; The Granary, Stables and Saddle Room which are all converted from the 18th-century Coach House which opened in 2007. The hosts Paul and Flora are exceptional at ensuring you have a comfortable stay but you also get to experience some of the history of their working farm and it's fascinating.

The accommodations are fully equipped with everything you need for a stay, including fantastic space outdoors to sit outdoors with a glass of wine, a BBQ, children's play area and toys. The character that oozes from the accommodation here is something I haven't experienced before and I felt instantly relaxed here! Their apartments are also dog-friendly, no leaving your four-legged friend on this trip!

3. Beachcroft Hotel, West Sussex

This place is where I spent my first staycation since lockdown and I wasn't disappointed, The Beachcroft Hotel is fantastic and so is the location. Situated right on the Felpham Seafront we were able to enjoy a dip in the sea as well as all of the other classic British charm like fish and chips and a ice cream. We stayed in the hotel itself but there's also 4 independent and self-contained beach huts available too. We couldn't fault our stay here at all, everything was done in the hotel's power to ensure all of their customers were safe and comfortable during their visit. There's also dog-friendly accommodation options here too.

You can hire bikes here to enjoy a cycle around the area and we enjoyed a few drinks in their beer garden afterwards too. Having never visited this area of Sussex before, we couldn't believe the vast of things to enjoy on our doorstep and this was the break we definitely needed without feeling overwhelmed by volumes of people. We stayed in the King Seaview Room and it was spacious, comfortable and had the best view overlooking the sea too.

4. Beech Hill Hotel and Spa, Lake Windermere

The Lake District area of the UK is undoubtedly one of the places most commonly on everyone's list to visit. I've been here on a few occasions have stayed at the Beech Hill Hotel and Spa twice so I can assure you that this place is great for a staycation. This 4-star hotel overlooks the eastern bank of Lake Windermere, one of the most breathtaking spots within the Lake District. If you are looking for a view besides the four walls of your home after lockdown, Beech Hill is the place to visit.

There's fantastic places to explore nearby for days out, whether that's by foot, cycle or car. This place will be even better once the spa reopens, I enjoyed spending hours in their outdoor jacuzzi overlooking those incredible views.

5. Street Farm Studio, The Cotswolds

This place was our first experience of using Air BnB and it's definitely encouraged us to use this service again. The Street Farm Studio is a quaint studio flat situated upon a farm, there's also a larger holiday cottage available on site. The studio flat has everything you need for a staycation, including access to Netflix on the TV, a cute local pub to enjoy a pint and many popular spots in the Cotswolds to explore. We loved the self-catering aspect of this place so we could cook ourselves a breakfast before the start of the day or our favourite dinner in the evening.

The area surrounding the place is very quiet so if you just want to enjoy a good book in a quiet spot then this is definitely for you.

Castle Combe in Wiltshire and the 3rd most Instagrammable place in the UK is just 45 minutes away from this studio flat.

6. The Plough at Lupton, Lake District

North of the Lake District is the beautiful haven of The Plough at Lupton. This is definitely up there as one of the best hotels I've ever visited in the heart of England's most beautiful area. The location of this hotel is ideal for anyone heading on to the Lakes or the Yorkshire Dales for a staycation. I love the location of this hotel for peace and quiet but also to enjoy some little adventures whilst you're here too!

We stayed in the Torsin room on our stay, which can accommodate up to five people in total. The space in this room is incredible and it definitely felt luxurious, with the most beautiful roll top bath that I enjoyed drinking a few gins in!

7. Bath Mill Lodge Retreat, Somerset

If you want to enjoy a staycation outside of one of the UK's most popular cities, Bath, then look no further than a stay at the

Bath Mill Lodge Retreat. This place is situated just a couple of miles outside of the city centre in the beautiful Somerset countryside. We stayed in a dog-friendly lodge for the weekend and adored the open planned and fresh design.

These lodges are self-catering options so you can enjoy just relaxing within the place surrounded by your favourite food and drinks. They have some great facilities on site like their restaurant and small gym, as well as some gorgeous walks nearby for you and your family to enjoy.

8. The Feathers Hotel, Oxfordshire

The Oxfordshire area is beautiful here in the UK and in the Woodstock area is the beautiful Feathers Hotel. This hotel has over 21 contemporary and spacious rooms, making it the perfect place to unwind and relax after a day of exploring the fantastic area in which it is within. There are many places surrounding the hotel which will be of interest to explore, with the city of Oxford 27 minutes by car and Blenheim Palace a 11 minute walk. If you are on your staycation and want some retail therapy, Bicester Village is just 26 minutes away by car.

When we stayed here we had the featured suite with lounge and this room was beautiful. It had all of the space and amenities we needed for a comfortable stay in the area. We also really loved their inhouse restaurant, they served delicious food.

9. Wigman Holidays Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire

This in fact a staycation I haven't visited but has huge appeal, especially as it's on my doorstep here in Leicester. Glamping is definitely something I can get on board with having experienced it a few times in the past and the big appeal here is the area and the affordable accommodation options for families and couples desperate to have a break this summer.

Wigman Holidays Charnwood Forest is surrounded by woodland and rolling green scenery. There are six en-suite, luxury Wigman cabins that sit around a wildlilfe pool. You have your own private outdoor dining area. There's some great things to do and see nearby including the Tropical Birdland and Bradgate Park. I never realised this place was on my doorstop and if you are somebody who is still feeling anxious about travelling right now, glamping may be the perfect solution.

10. Smithyfields Campsite, Peak District

We love having the Peak District on our doorstep, especially when we're in the need of a glamping fix. We went on a trip with Bumble Campers in 2019 (who are a fantastic provider of campervans if you are after something like that for your staycation this summer!) and discovered this gem, Smithyfields.

Smithyfields is a small and quiet campsite located in the heart of the Peak District, 15 minutes north of Dovedale. It's situated in the centre of the idyllic village of Alstonefield; offering a perfect base for exploring all that this area has to offer. There's endless walks on your doorstep and a lovely village pub too. We had a pleasant stay here and would recommend it.
