The Adelphi Theatre’s production of Back to the Future is the ultimate feel-good musical, paying tribute to a true cult classic. And for someone who’s never seen the film (don’t judge me—I  know I need to!), the show was straightforward to follow. No prior knowledge of the story is necessary to enjoy this toe-tapping, high-energy adaptation.

From Row B of the Dress Circle, the view of the stage is impeccable, offering a perfect vantage point to appreciate the show. Three hundred million LED pixels create an incredible cyber inspired pattern that creates an eye-catching backdrop as you enter the auditorium, and seamlessly enhances the impressive special effects woven throughout the show.

The story follows Marty McFly, an aspiring rockstar hoping to escape his family’s ordinary life.  However, his unlikely friendship with eccentric inventor Dr Emmett Brown throws everything off course when Marty is accidentally sent 30 years into the past. There, he not only meets his parents but disrupts their first encounter, putting his own future in jeopardy.

The second act begins with a showstopping jazz number as Marty scrambles to undo the chaos he caused - trying to ensure history stays (mostly) on track.

Beyond the brilliant storyline, the cast truly makes this production shine. The musical numbers and choreography are flawlessly executed, pulling you so deeply into the world of Back to the  Future that you forget you’re watching a show - you feel like you’re living it. Caden Brauch  (Marty) and Cory English (Doc Brown) are the perfect duo, and their on-stage chemistry sets the tone for the entire cast. Orlando Gibbs (George McFly) is instantly lovable; his awkward mannerisms and signature chuckle earn laughs every time he steps on stage. Meanwhile,  Sarah Goggin (Lorraine Baines) and the ensemble round out the production, each bringing something unique to the performance.

And when you think the spectacle is over, the finale delivers one last breathtaking surprise—so be sure to stick around. Back To The Future is a theatrical experience you won’t forget!

Back to the Future: The Musical is currently playing at the Adelphi Theatre until 3 January 2026.
