What's On My Summer Reading List.
One of the goals I set myself for 2019 was to read more. I'm already on my 23rd book of year and with the summer holidays on the horizon I'm attempting to get more motivated with my reading. I have fond memories of taking part in my local libraries reading challenge as a child where I would challenge myself to read 5 or more books during the holidays. In return you'd get a medal or a certificate and boy did it motivate me!
Although as an adult I don't have a medal waiting for me I can't wait to indulge in lots of reading during my summer holidays. I'm really excited for the afternoons I will be spend sacking off the housework for a book and I'd love to read at least 6 books this summer (if not more!)
So I thought it’d be nice to share whats on my summer reading list!
Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman
I've had this book on my shelf for a while from Waterstones after being drawn into the movie adaptation in 2017. I'm really trying to read the books on my shelf that have been there for a while. This book is a YA coming-of-age novel that revolves around a romance between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliff-side mansion on the Italian Riviera. Their romance brings consequences, especially their gender. I'm excited to give this one a go as I usually stray from romance-type novels.
Two Can Keep A Secret by Karen M.McManus
I purchased this book after falling in love with her other novel 'One of Us is Lying' - so much so that it was one of my favourite books in 2017. This book is like her other in that it's a YA murder mystery book and so many of my friends have enjoyed it just as much as One Of Us is Lying. I can't wait to see what it has to offer. It is about a picturesque town of Echo Ridge that keeps losing its homecoming queens.
Poster Boy By N.J. Crosskey
This book was kindly gifted to me by the publisher and both the cover and description really drew me in instantly. In this book it is broadcast live as Rosa Lincoln takes to the stage at her brother's memorial service with a bomb concealed beneath her clothes. It's a dystopian novel that takes on the undercurrents and themes that are widely international. I've read loads of fantastic reviews of this book so I cannot wait to get my teeth dug into it this summer.
Will Grayson, Will Grayson By John Green & David Leuithan
I've read all of John Green's books despite this one and I was glad to find it in my local charity bookshop. This book follows two teenagers with the same name, running in two very different cities who find their lives going in new and unexpected directions. I love how John Green writes and understand that Leuithan is just as good (I've never read any of his books!). This book approaches friendship, sexuality and relationship topics that are relatable so I can't wait to finally dig into this book, it's been on my shelf for a while!
The Race to Space by Clive Glifford
I really enjoy reading about space and so I was thrilled to have this title approved to me on NetGalley recently. This book is a 50th anniversary celebration of the Moon Landing this July and it talks about the Space Race rivalry between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It uses illustrations to help tell the story too, I can't wait to learn something new this summer with this book.
Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams.
I actually love Laura Jane Williams' Instagram account so felt like I've watched this book grow from it's initial seed! I don't usually read romance novels but this Summer I'm going to give this one a go! This story involves Nadia and Daniel who both get the 7.30 every morning without a fail. After Nadia catches sight of a post in the daily paper 'To the cute girl with the coffee stains on her dress. I’m the guy who’s always standing near the doors… Drink sometime?' we begin to undergo a not-quite-romance of near-misses, true love, and the power of the written word.
These are just some of the books I'd like to read this summer but hopefully I'll read more than 6!
