PREVIEW | Balletboyz "THEM/US" London Premiere.
The award-winning Dance company Balletboyz are kickstarting 2019 in style with the London premiere of Them/Us this Spring at Sadler's Wells. This innovative double-bill marks the first ever production devised by the Balletboyz' own dancers with a score from rising star composer Charlotte Harding. This new collaboration also brings together the dancers with Olivier Award-winning choreographer and Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Christopher Wheeldon once again.
Balletboyz is up there as one of the most thrilling dance companies of our time with their array of ground-breaking live performances, films and TV appearances. Both of the productions are set to original scores by world-class composers and asks where we see ourselves in relation to the "other".
Them is the work of the company's in-house talent and will see them step outside the realm of working with an outside choreographer. This in itself to be great to see what work they have mapped on themselves in relation to their curiosity and questions.
Us is an extension of inspiration from Christopher Wheeldon's duet featured in the last show performed by the Balletboyz, Fourteen Days in 2018. The score has developed and this new work explores the possibilities of before, during and after. Wheeldon is "relishing in the opportunity to work with Balletboyz again to create a work that expands on my previous work with the company, Us". He also explains a re-collaborate with English folk-rock musician, visual poet and artist Keaton Henson is also something he's very excited about "his music for Us inspired me to investigate a new style of movement".
The current Balletboyz Company includes 6 male dancers and you wouldn't want to miss this action-packed double-bill at Sadler's Wells in March 2019.
